There have been a significant amount of inflows in to equity ETFs over the past year. In total, equity ETFs have seen over $300 billion in flows over the last 12 months ($345 billion specifically). The growth in flows initially focused on US Equities, with flows to US equities outpacing international equities $83 billion to $15 billion in the 4th quarter last year. By the second quarter of 2017, the tables had turned, and international equity flows significantly outpaced US equity flows, $57 billion to $16 billion. Flows have flattened out between the two in the third quarter, but the more interesting trend is the decline in equities flows quarter over quarter. The past 4 quarters of Equity ETF flows came in at $122 billion, $96 billion, $73 billion, and only $53 billion in the most recent quarter. Bond flows have been pretty steady coming in between $33 and $35 billion in each of the last 3 quarters.
